Federal Government diverts Lagos-Calabar coastal road via Ogoni territory in tribute to late Mpigi

The federal government has given its approval for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to be rerouted through Ogoniland, a move made in tribute to the late Senator Mpigi Barinada Barry.

During a Night of Tribute held in Abuja, Umahi reflected on the significance of Senator Mpigi's passing, describing it as a profound loss for the nation, while also acknowledging his tireless efforts towards national development, integrity, and fostering unity in the Senate.

Senator Mpigi's legacy, according to Umahi, has had far-reaching impacts, with notable projects in various states including Lagos, Ogun, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Kano, extending beyond his immediate constituency.

Umahi portrayed the late senator as a paragon of integrity, where his word was his unwavering commitment, a trait that is exceedingly rare in the realm of politics.

The minister also underscored Senator Mpigi's pivotal role in addressing challenges related to key road projects, such as the Bodo-Bonny Road and the Eleme-Onne section of the East-West Road, both located in Rivers State.

In a gesture of recognition for Senator Mpigi's dedicated service, President Bola Tinubu has approved the rerouting of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to pass through Ogoniland, as announced by Umahi.
