Federal Capital Territory Police Commissioner cautions personnel over unprofessional behavior, unveils specialized task force to combat crime

Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, has issued a stern warning to police personnel, emphasizing that any form of misconduct, abuse of authority, harassment, or extortion of residents will be thoroughly investigated and addressed.

This warning was given on Monday, during the launch of the Violent Crime Response Unit, which took place at the former SARS office in Guzape Junction, Abuja, marking a significant step towards enhancing security in the area.

The establishment of the Violent Crime Response Unit is part of a broader effort to bolster the fight against serious crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping, and violent attacks, within the Federal Capital Territory, according to CP Sanusi.

The unit has been divided into five operational sectors, strategically located across the territory, to ensure comprehensive coverage, effective intelligence gathering, and swift response to potential security threats.

CP Sanusi emphasized that the officers assigned to the Violent Crime Response Unit have undergone rigorous screening and training, and are expected to adhere to the principles of professionalism, discipline, accountability, and respect for human rights in their operations.

He also called upon residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and accurate information, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the public and law enforcement in maintaining effective security.

The launch event was attended by a diverse range of senior security officials, including representatives from the Nigerian Army, Air Force, Navy, Immigration Service, NDLEA, FRSC, as well as traditional rulers and community stakeholders.

The FCT Police Command encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to the authorities, using the designated emergency lines, to help maintain a safe and secure environment within the Federal Capital Territory.
