FCTA set to collaborate with Finland on innovative urban solutions and waste disposal systems

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has signaled the FCT Administration's intention to collaborate with the Republic of Finland in several key sectors, including infrastructure development, agriculture, smart city technology, green energy, and modern waste management.

Wike made this announcement on Tuesday during a visit by the Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mrs Sanna Selin, at his Abuja office, where he underscored the FCT's rapid growth and ongoing transformation.

The Minister emphasized the administration's eagerness to tap into Finland's expertise to sustain the FCT's progress, stating that cooperation with other countries' cities is essential for advancing infrastructure and agriculture.

Wike expressed his willingness to partner with Finland in areas such as infrastructure development, smart city technology, and green energy, which the Ambassador had previously mentioned as potential areas of support.

The Minister also assured Ambassador Selin of improved security across the FCT, reiterating the administration's commitment to providing a safe and enabling environment for international partners.

A major focus of the discussion was the need to modernize the FCT's waste management system, with Wike inviting Finnish firms with expertise in environmental technology to engage with the administration.

Wike emphasized the importance of waste management, stating that discussions with firms having the capacity to manage the FCT's waste would be welcome, and that this is a key priority for the administration.

Ambassador Sanna Selin noted that bilateral relations between Finland and Nigeria have strengthened significantly in recent months, highlighting Finland's leadership in digitalization, water and waste management, and circular economy solutions.

The Ambassador mentioned that Finland is one of the most digitized countries in the world and has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nigeria on digitalization and innovation.

Finland's expertise in water and waste management technologies, as well as circular economy solutions, was also highlighted by the Ambassador, who expressed optimism about replicating these successes in the FCT through concrete projects.

The Ambassador's optimism centered on the potential for expanding economic and technical cooperation between the two countries by leveraging the expertise available in Finland's capital region.
