FCT Police Commissioner issues two-week ultimatum to metropolitan divisional police officers to tackle robbery and traffic offenses

The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has given Divisional Police Officers a two-week ultimatum to curb robbery and other security threats in the nation's capital.

This directive was made public in a statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, following a security meeting between CP Sanusi and the 17 Divisional Police Officers under the Metro Area Command on Friday.

The meeting assessed the current security situation in Abuja and discussed strategies to address emerging security challenges across the city, with CP Sanusi expressing concern over various security and traffic-related offences.

These offences include traffic robbery, vehicle snatching at gunpoint, and the activities of "one chance" robbery syndicates, as well as motorists driving against traffic and the illegal operations of commercial motorcyclists on major roads.

Additional concerns raised by CP Sanusi include vandalism of public and private property, indiscriminate parking on highways, and persistent traffic congestion, which the DPOs have been directed to address within the two-week deadline.

Failure to comply with the directive will result in sanctions, and the police commissioner has instructed the Metro Area Commander to ensure strict compliance with the order and provide effective leadership to the DPOs.

While the main focus will be on restoring security and order in the city centre, CP Sanusi will personally oversee operations aimed at addressing security challenges in the suburbs, emphasizing that negligence and laxity will not be tolerated.

CP Sanusi has urged officers to remain proactive and committed to protecting residents and visitors in the Federal Capital Territory, and the FCT Police Command has appealed to the public to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information.
