Fayose forecasts overwhelming victory for Oyebanji amid huge voter participation in Afao-Ekiti

There was a massive voter turnout on Saturday at Afao-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State, the hometown of former Governor Ayodele Fayose, during the governorship election.

All eight polling units in Afao-Ekiti Ward recorded high voter participation, as residents—young and old—trooped out early to exercise their civic rights.

Fayose arrived at his polling unit at St. David’s Primary School, which also served as the ward collation centre, at about 8:50 a.m. alongside his son, Bolu Fayose, the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly candidate for Irepodun/Ifelodun Constituency II.

Speaking after casting his vote, the former governor predicted a landslide victory for APC candidate Abiodun Oyebanji, citing what he described as strong indicators from across the state.

“So far, so good. There is no incident, no issue, no disruption. It has a clear resemblance to a process that will be credible. INEC is alert to its duties. This is an improvement from the past,” he said.

According to him, Oyebanji had already secured victory based on prevailing political dynamics and voter sentiment.

“Oyebanji has already won the election if you look at the state of things in the state and the body language of the people. I am predicting an overwhelming victory for him,” he added.

Fayose also commended security agencies for their presence and professionalism during the exercise, noting that they had remained neutral.

“They are doing very well. You can see that they have enough men on the ground. They conduct themselves very well and take no side in the exercise,” he said.

He urged political actors to accept the outcome of the election and allow the state to focus on governance after the polls.
