Fayemi: APC has lost sight of its goals

Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has sounded the alarm, cautioning that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strayed from its founding principles, citing a glaring absence of intellectual discourse and internal discussion within the party's ranks.

Fayemi, who previously served as Minister of Solid Minerals Development, voiced his concerns on the 'State Affairs with Edmund Obilo' program, highlighting the party's current direction as a source of deep unease.

As a founding member of the APC, Fayemi noted that he had recently expressed similar anxieties during the party's South-West conference in Lagos, emphasizing that the party has lost its sense of purpose and the vision of its founding fathers.

According to Fayemi, the party's tendency to bypass competitive elections in favor of handpicked agreements is a recipe for disaster, fostering deep-seated resentment among party members and potentially leading to an implosion.

When questioned about the role of President Bola Tinubu, specifically whether his leadership style involves imposing candidates, Fayemi disagreed with this characterization, instead suggesting that the President is preoccupied with the immense demands of governing the nation.

Fayemi acknowledged Tinubu as a founding father of the APC, but observed that party members may simply be in agreement with the President's choices, rather than being coerced into supporting them.

Fayemi issued a stark warning about the growing trend of party loyalists flocking to the presidential villa in search of political favors and endorsements, stating that this culture poses a significant threat to the party's stability.

He cautioned that if this trend continues, with everyone rushing to Aso Rock in pursuit of personal gain, the consequences would be unfortunate, undermining the party's very foundations.
