Fatalities and injuries reported after brutal confrontation between young people erupts in Ibadan

A violent clash among youths in the Asalu community of Lalupon, Ibadan, Oyo State, has resulted in the death of a middle-aged man named Kehinde, with several others sustaining injuries in the process.

The incident, which occurred in the Lagelu Local Government Area, saw the deceased suffer fatal injuries from dangerous weapons during the outbreak of violence, according to reports.

Confirming the incident on Monday, Police Public Relations Officer Ayanlade Olayinka stated that a suspect, Giwa Sodiq, has been arrested in connection with the killing, with preliminary investigations revealing that community leaders alerted the Iyana-Offa Police Division after security guards reported a confrontation among youths.

The injured victims were immediately rushed to Ojo Oluwa Hospital, Iyana-Offa, where one of them, Kehinde, also known locally as ‘Ogo Ojigbo,’ unfortunately succumbed to his injuries, as disclosed by Olayinka.

Police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, visited the scene of the incident and the hospital, documenting evidence and taking the suspect into custody, as part of the ongoing investigation.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue of Adeoyo State Hospital for a post-mortem examination, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects involved in the attack, according to the police.

Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna commended officers for their swift response to the incident and urged residents to remain vigilant by promptly reporting suspicious or criminal activities.

He also appealed to members of the public with credible information about the fleeing suspects to assist law enforcement authorities in their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The police command emphasized the need for continued cooperation between residents and security agencies to ensure safety and maintain peace within communities, in the aftermath of the incident.
