Fatal collision in Ibadan leaves two dead, multiple people hurt after runaway truck slams into cars and bystanders

A devastating accident occurred at Soka Junction in Ibadan, on the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway, resulting in the loss of two lives and leaving several others injured with varying degrees of severity.

The accident took place on Saturday night, at approximately 10:10 p.m., and involved multiple vehicles, including a badly damaged Toyota Venza and a BMW.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a white HOWO truck, bearing the registration number Gombe GEM696XE, collided with other vehicles and pedestrians after its driver, Abdullahi Bashiru, allegedly lost control of the vehicle.

Witnesses claim that the driver's reckless driving and excessive speed led to the loss of control, ultimately causing the fatal collision.

According to DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the Police Public Relations Officer, two people lost their lives in the accident, while several others sustained injuries of varying degrees.

The police spokesperson confirmed that multiple vehicles were involved in the accident and suffered damage as a result.

The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for a speedy recovery for those injured, as announced by Ayanlade.
