Fatal collision in Ibadan claims two lives, leaves multiple people hurt after runaway truck slams into cars

A devastating accident occurred at Soka Junction in Ibadan, on the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway, resulting in the loss of two lives and leaving several others injured, according to reports from the scene on Saturday night.

The accident, which took place at approximately 10:10 p.m., involved a multitude of vehicles, including a Toyota Venza and a BMW car, both of which sustained significant damage in the crash.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a white HOWO truck, bearing the registration number Gombe GEM696XE, collided with other vehicles and pedestrians after its driver, Abdullahi Bashiru, allegedly lost control of the vehicle.

Witnesses claim that the driver's reckless driving and excessive speed led to the loss of control, ultimately resulting in the fatal collision that night.

DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident, stating that two people lost their lives, while several others sustained injuries of varying degrees.

The police spokesperson also noted that multiple vehicles were involved and damaged in the accident, and that the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for a speedy recovery for those injured.

A thorough investigation into the incident has commenced, as announced by Ayanlade, with the aim of determining the full circumstances surrounding the accident and ensuring that justice is served.

In a message to the public, Ayanlade advised motorists to exercise caution, adhere strictly to traffic regulations, and avoid excessive speed to prevent unnecessary loss of life.
