The incident took place in close proximity to Butler Memorial Airport, approximately 60 miles south of Kansas City, as confirmed by Dennis Jacobs, director of the Bates County Emergency Management Agency.

The private plane, which was carrying 11 skydivers and a pilot, made a mysterious U-turn after taking off at around 11:30 am, ultimately crashing near a highway, which led authorities to shut down the road, as reported by local media outlets.

As Kansas City prepares to host several World Cup matches, Sheriff Chad Anderson addressed the media, stating that authorities have found no evidence suggesting the crash was related to terrorism or crime, with the incident appearing to be an accident.

Sheriff Anderson clarified that the crash seems to be an unfortunate accident, saying "For all intents and purposes, (this) appears to be an accident," while also acknowledging that the ownership of the airplane and the name of the skydiving company or organization involved remain unknown to him.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the details of the crash, including the death toll, and identified the aircraft as a Pacific Aerospace P750, a single-engine plane designed and manufactured in New Zealand.
