Fani-Kayode blasts Momodu over comparison of Tinubu to Abacha, saying he appears exhausted and defeated

Nigeria's Ambassador-designate to Germany, Femi Fani-Kayode, has responded to comments made by African Democratic Congress chieftain Dele Momodu, who compared President Bola Tinubu's administration to the military regime of the late General Sani Abacha.

Fani-Kayode described Momodu's remarks as evidence of a "degenerating and worrisome level of cognitive dissonance" in a statement posted on his X handle on Monday, also stating that Momodu "sounded drained, tired and broken" during an interview.

During his appearance on Channels Television on Sunday, Momodu expressed concerns that President Tinubu could become a dictator, citing his past governance of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 as evidence of his potential authoritarian tendencies.

Momodu stated that since Tinubu's time as governor, "it was very clear to me that I didn’t need a prophet to tell me that we are dealing with a potential dictator if given the presidential ticket," and some people have even described the current situation as "being worse than that of Abacha government."

Fani-Kayode, while expressing affection for Momodu, criticized his interview with Seun Okinbaloye of Channels TV, saying "he sounded drained, tired and broken and spoke little sense yesterday."

Fani-Kayode suggested that Momodu take a break from politics and political commentary to "get his breath back and attempt to overhaul his intellectual engine."

He also accused Momodu of being disrespectful to the president, vice president, ministers, senators, and newly appointed ambassadors, many of whom have more governance experience than the ADC chieftain.

Fani-Kayode launched a scathing attack on the African Democratic Congress, describing it as "a badly patched up inflatable plastic life boat that has not even managed to find its bearing or leave the harbour."

The party, according to Fani-Kayode, "has no engine, no sails, no oars, no captain, no crew, no navigational equipment, no muscle, no firepower, no war chest, no destination."

Fani-Kayode described the ADC's membership as "vacuous, shallow, intellectual frauds and political renegades who lack foresight and who have no direction," and attributed the mass movement of leaders to the APC to the public's perception of the ADC as "a collection of disingenuous, desperate and recycled political losers."

Despite his criticism, Fani-Kayode urged Momodu to leave the ADC and join the ruling party, comparing his presence in the opposition to "a gentle, beautiful, well bred, well fed and well manicured flamingo trapped in a sea of ugly, cruel, loud, angry, starving, cackling and relentless crows and vultures."

Fani-Kayode concluded by saying "I appeal to my brother Dele: leave the ranks of the forces of darkness and join us. You are far too good for the company you keep."
