Families of Deceased Air Force Staff to Receive Year's Worth of Pay in Compensation

The Nigerian Air Force has announced plans to provide financial support to families of personnel who lose their lives in the line of duty, with salary payments to be sustained for up to 12 months. This initiative has been approved by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, as part of a broader effort to bolster support for affected families.

A reliable source within the NAF, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed this information to the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja, highlighting the importance of the new policy.

The policy allows for a special extension of salary payments to the spouses or next of kin of NAF personnel killed in action, thereby helping to mitigate the financial impact of their loss.

Normally, salary payments cease upon the death of a personnel member, in accordance with existing public service rules, but the new initiative will see salaries continue for up to 12 months from the date of death.

This extension will remain in place until all death benefits are fully processed and paid, whichever comes first, according to the NAF source, who explained that the goal is to prevent financial hardship for bereaved families during the administrative processing period.

In addition to this initiative, the Chief of the Air Staff has also approved additional welfare packages for officers, airmen, and airwomen of the service, aimed at alleviating the prevailing economic pressures.
