Explosions in Maiduguri Prompt ADC to Call for Tinubu's Immediate Return from British Visit

The opposition party's stance emphasizes that security should not be compromised by politics or foreign trips, and that the latest attack has raised significant concerns about leadership during a critical time.

This position was outlined in a statement released on Tuesday by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC's National Publicity Secretary, who strongly condemned the bomb blasts that have left numerous innocent Nigerians dead and many others injured in Maiduguri.

The ADC has expressed its deepest sympathies to the victims, their families, and the people of Maiduguri, a city that has endured immense pain over the years, and has commended the bravery of first responders and security personnel who are working to assist the injured and restore calm.

Terrorism anywhere in Nigeria is viewed as an attack on all Nigerians, and the ADC believes that moments like this demand the full and undivided attention of the nation's leadership, making it troubling that the President is currently outside the country.

The party has criticized the government's priorities, stating that at a time when Nigerian soldiers and civilians are being killed by terrorists, those responsible for protecting the country are focused on the politics of self-succession, with the National Security Adviser targeting opposition figures and the Minister of Defence planning the APC national convention.

This has been described as a dangerous distraction that is costing lives, and the ADC has emphasized that those being killed by terrorists are not just numbers, but people's children, husbands, fathers, and family members.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's presence abroad, exchanging pleasantries with the King and Queen of England, while Nigerians mourn and soldiers are being buried, has been highlighted, with the ADC noting that not a word has been spared for the victims or the brave soldiers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service of Nigeria.

The protection of lives and property is deemed the most basic responsibility of any government, and the ADC has called on President Tinubu to return to the country immediately and demonstrate that he cares about something beyond politics.

The party also believes that it is time for the government to take full responsibility for every life lost that could have been protected, by paying compensation to the families of victims, whether military or civilian.

The ADC has stressed that it is no longer sufficient for the government to merely issue condolences and condemnations, and that its first duty is to protect lives, as Nigeria cannot continue on a path where the loss of life becomes routine.
