Enugu community remains safe, no incident occurred, says state government

The Enugu State Government has denounced reports on social media alleging attacks on innocent citizens in Awgu, Awgu Council Area, as entirely false and misleading, with the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr Malachy Agbo, making this clarification in a statement issued in Enugu on Monday.

According to Dr Agbo, there has been no such incident in Awgu or anywhere else in the state, describing the reports as a deliberate fabrication intended to misinform the public and spark unnecessary panic.

Residents of Awgu and other communities across Enugu State are going about their daily activities peacefully, without any security breaches of the kind being alleged, with the commissioner emphasizing that the reports are entirely baseless.

Dr Agbo stated unequivocally that the alleged incident did not occur, and the report is nothing more than a product of the imagination of those spreading it, urging the public to disregard the misinformation.

The administration of Gov Peter Mbah has made security a top priority, investing heavily in measures to safeguard lives and property across the state, according to Dr Agbo, who noted that some individuals are uncomfortable with the prevailing peace and stability in Enugu State.

These individuals are reportedly resorting to fabricating falsehoods in a desperate attempt to score cheap political points at the expense of the state's reputation as one of the safest destinations in the country.

Dr Agbo warned that the government will not tolerate malicious actors spreading falsehoods capable of undermining public confidence and security, stressing that those involved in creating or disseminating fake news will face the full weight of the law.

The commissioner reaffirmed the government's commitment to protecting lives and property, emphasizing that the safety and well-being of Enugu people remain central to Gov Mbah's transformational development agenda.
