A deadly assault by suspected bandits occurred at Gurbi Village, located in Kankara Local Government Area, resulting in the loss of 11 lives, according to the Katsina State police command.

The police spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, revealed this information in a statement released in Katsina on Monday, also confirming that two individuals sustained injuries during the attack.

The bandits launched their attack at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, firing upon unsuspecting residents and claiming the lives of their victims instantly.

According to Sadiq-Aliyu, the attackers fled the scene as security forces approached, and a joint security team comprising police, military, and other agencies quickly responded to a distress call, forcing the attackers to retreat.

The injured victims received urgent treatment at a nearby hospital, while the deceased were laid to rest in accordance with Islamic customs, as stated by Sadiq-Aliyu.

In response to the attack, the command bolstered security in the area by deploying additional tactical teams to prevent further incidents from occurring.

Sadiq-Aliyu also announced that the command has ordered increased patrols and enhanced collaboration between security agencies and local communities.

Efforts to apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous act are currently underway, and Sadiq-Aliyu urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the authorities.
