Eid: Nigeria's stability, peace, and security are a collective responsibility, not a single person's burden – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu, speaking in Lagos on Friday, called on citizens to embody the values of patience, tolerance, and neighbourliness that are inherent in the seasons of Ramadan and Lent, as a means of fostering nation-building.

This approach, according to the President, serves as the foundation for development, which is rooted in peaceful and harmonious coexistence among the populace.

At the Eid-el-Fitr prayers held at the Dodan Barrack, President Tinubu expressed his desire for peace in the country, emphasizing that the responsibility of maintaining stability, peace, and security is a collective one that involves all citizens.

The President urged citizens to report any suspicious movements across the country, stating that this is also a key part of their responsibilities, in addition to maintaining peace and security.

President Tinubu emphasized the importance of extending the spiritual emphasis on charity and kindness beyond the fasting period, highlighting the need for citizens to continue assisting the needy and helping the vulnerable.

He expressed gratitude to God for guiding the nation through the month of Ramadan, and emphasized the need for citizens to uphold the principles of giving, peace, security, and love for the nation and its people.

The President noted that the teachings of Ramadan should continue even after the fasting period, emphasizing the importance of being one's brother's keeper and exhibiting good behavior, good neighbourliness, and love for humanity.

President Tinubu also highlighted the fact that the focus of all religions in the country is the worship of one God, and that citizens' characters must reflect deep spiritual values drawn from prayers, the study of holy scriptures, meditation, and penitence.

The President described the task of nation-building as a collective and inclusive effort that is shared by all Nigerians, emphasizing the need to focus on the beauty of diversity and the unity of the country.

Regarding his visit to the United Kingdom with his wife, the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, President Tinubu described the reception by His Majesty, King Charles III, and Queen Camilla as a reflection of Nigeria's place in the emerging global economy.

The President viewed the visit as an opportunity to demonstrate the diversity of Nigerian society, where citizens accept one another as brothers' keepers, and emphasized the importance of tolerance among all faiths.

Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, stated that the government and people of the state will continue to pray for peace and the well-being of all citizens in the country, and thanked the President for his continued support of the state.

Alhaji Sulaiman Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos State, who led the Eid al-Fitr prayer, reminded the Muslim Ummah of the significance of Ramadan and the need for the faithful to continue living in the virtues of penitence and piety.

Abou-Nolla urged citizens to continue seeking peace and brotherhood, despite the challenges worldwide, emphasizing that this is a time for calmness, wisdom, and discipline, rather than chaos and provocation.

President Tinubu was accompanied to the Eid ground by several notable figures, including the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola; as well as associates and family members.
