Eid-el-Fitr: ACF Calls for Calm, Cautions Against Exacerbating Economic Difficulties

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has extended congratulations to Muslims in Nigeria and worldwide on the successful completion of the 1447AH Ramadan fast and the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, amidst concerns over the country's worsening economic and security challenges.

In a statement issued by National Publicity Secretary Tukur A. Muhammad-Baba, the Forum reflected on Ramadan as a period of spiritual reflection, sacrifice, and compassion, yet noted that this year's observance occurred during a notable decline in living conditions for many Nigerians.

The ACF highlighted the prevalence of economic hardship, rising poverty, and socio-economic deprivation, particularly in Northern Nigeria, as key concerns that require immediate attention.

Persistent insecurity across the three northern geopolitical zones is also a major issue, with the North-Central region experiencing attacks by armed groups in Benue, Niger, Plateau, Kogi, and Kwara states.

In the North-West, banditry and criminal activities continue to thrive, while the North-East faces renewed threats from insurgent groups, including recent attacks on military formations in Borno and Plateau states.

The Forum condemned extra-judicial arrests and prolonged detentions, warning that such practices erode democratic principles and undermine trust in the system.

According to the statement, the general situation of the people is one of despair, hopelessness, and despondency, despite citizens showing remarkable resilience and faith in the face of adversity.

The ACF urged political leaders not to take the patience of Nigerians for granted, emphasizing that continued deterioration in living conditions could potentially trigger widespread public discontent.

The Forum called on politicians to prioritize good governance, prudent resource management, and people-oriented policies over an early focus on the 2027 general elections, stressing the need for effective leadership.

The ACF reaffirmed its support for security agencies in their efforts to tackle insecurity and restore peace across the country, acknowledging the importance of their role in maintaining stability.
