Operatives of the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested one Iziga Jude Ikechukwu, also known as “Easy-money”, for allegedly abusing naira notes during his birthday party.
In a statement posted on X on Thursday, the EFCC disclosed that Ikechukwu, a 24-year-old palm kernel dealer, was arrested following actionable intelligence received through a viral video circulating on social media in which he was seen recording himself while abusing naira notes in his hotel room during his birthday celebration.
According to the commission, “The offence is contrary to Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act of 2007.”
The commission explained that upon receiving the intelligence, a preliminary investigation was carried out, which led to the identification and arrest of the suspect.
“Upon receipt of the intelligence, a preliminary investigation was conducted, and the identity and address of the suspect were identified, and he was arrested on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at his residence located around Timber Market in Enugu-Ezike, Enugu State,” the statement read.
The commission added that the sum of N81,700, suspected to be part of the money he allegedly mutilated, was recovered during the arrest.
“The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the commission added.
PUNCH reported in February that Justice S.M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court in Kano convicted Kannywood actress Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa, also known as Samha, and sentenced her to six months’ imprisonment, with an option of a ₦200,000 fine, for mutilating the Nigerian currency, highlighting ongoing enforcement against abuse of the naira.
