EFCC arrests Edo ‘spiritualist’ over alleged $1,100 sextortion of Indian woman

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has arrested an Edo State-based man, Odigie Moses, over an alleged sextortion case involving an Indian woman.

The suspect, who reportedly presented himself as a spiritualist with healing powers, was arrested in Ekpoma, Edo State, the EFCC said in a statement shared on Friday.

According to the anti-graft agency, Moses allegedly met the woman on Zelle after she sought spiritual intervention for what she described as life-threatening challenges.

The EFCC said the suspect then allegedly convinced the woman to participate in a spiritual bath while recording the session without her consent.

He allegedly used the recording to threaten the woman, demanding money in exchange for keeping the video private.

The agency said the woman eventually paid $1,100 to prevent the alleged release of the recording.

“The suspect subsequently deceived her into taking a naked spiritual bath, which he recorded live without her permission, and thereafter blackmailed her to send him money, else he would make the video public,” the EFCC said.

The commission added that investigations were ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court after they are concluded.
