Edo State Authorities Launch Investigation into Alleged Bullying Case at Benin School

The Nigeria Police Force, Edo State Command, has initiated an investigation into a bullying incident at Igbinedion Education Centre, which occurred last Friday and involved two students allegedly bullying a fellow student.

A video of the incident has been circulating on social media, prompting the school management to expel the students involved, while the Edo State Ministry of Education has established a five-man panel to investigate the matter.

Despite these developments, the police have chosen to proceed with their own inquiry, without waiting for a formal complaint from the victim's parents, as directed by the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ene Ikoedem, confirmed that the police are aware of the viral video showing the disturbing incident of bullying involving a schoolboy at Igbinedion Secondary School.

The statement noted that while the school management has already taken disciplinary measures, including expelling the students involved, the police will still conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

The police command has assured the public that anyone found culpable will face the law in accordance with the provisions guiding juvenile offences, emphasizing its condemnation of acts of bullying, violence, or intimidation among students.
