Edo ADC installs fresh leadership amid turmoil

In a move to revamp its leadership, the Edo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has elected a new state executive, with Tony Alike at the helm, amidst the party's ongoing internal crisis.

The announcement of the new executive was made by Sem Andrew Uchendu, the National Collation Chairman from the party's National Secretariat, who revealed the outcome of the election.

However, this development comes on the heels of a conflicting announcement by Sen. Rowland Owie, a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC), who declared that Dr. Nosa Ehima had been elected as the new state chairman of the party on Friday.

Kennedy Odion, the current state chairman of the party, whose tenure is set to expire on May 19, claimed to be unaware of any congress held by the party in the state.

Sen. Uchendu disclosed that he had been in the state for three days to oversee the election process at the unit, ward, local government, and state levels, and that the party's leadership, led by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, had agreed to a consensus option for the emergence of new leaders.

Uchendu announced the election of Alile and 23 others as the new state leadership of the ADC, marking a significant shift in the party's leadership structure.

In his address to journalists, Alile expressed his intention to embark on a visitation to party leaders to foster unity, starting with a visit to Odigie-Oyegun's house.

Alile stated that the party would release a policy statement in the coming days, and emphasized the need for Nigerians to come together to demand change, posing the question: "Are we happy the way we are today?"

He underscored the importance of mobilizing Nigerians to reject the status quo and emphasized that the country belongs to everyone, not just a select few, and that the opposition would provide an alternative to the current government.

Alile hinted that the party would unveil its plans to actualize this vision in the coming weeks, ahead of the general election scheduled to commence in January.
