Disrupting terrorists' access to weapons is crucial to stopping assaults, say Christians in the North

The Northern Christian Association has emphasized that severing the supply of arms to terrorists is crucial in undermining their operations and minimizing attacks on innocent Nigerians, according to a statement made yesterday.

The group praised the Department of State Services for apprehending five suspects allegedly linked to the November 2025 abduction of students and staff of St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri, Niger State, highlighting the importance of targeting not only those who carry out attacks but also their support networks.

This operation, the association noted, demonstrates the value of sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated security efforts in combating terrorism and violent crimes, as stated by the chairman, Rev. Joseph John Hayab.

Rev. Hayab stressed that citizens should acknowledge positive outcomes whenever they occur, rather than solely criticizing the government when it falls short of expectations, and that the arrest of individuals allegedly involved in supplying arms to criminal elements underscores the importance of intelligence-led operations.

He emphasized that dismantling the networks that provide logistics and weapons to terrorists is critical to reducing their ability to launch attacks on innocent citizens and vulnerable communities, and that this should remain a key focus.

The association commended security personnel for their commitment and sacrifices in the face of persistent threats, noting that many operatives continue to risk their lives despite being frequently targeted by terrorists and other criminal elements.

The NCA urged security agencies to ensure that investigations are thorough and that everyone connected to the alleged crime is identified and brought to justice, as this would send a strong message that those who aid terrorism and violent crime will be held accountable.

Rev. Hayab also encouraged security personnel not to be discouraged in their efforts to protect the nation, expressing confidence that sustained collaboration among security agencies, communities, and other stakeholders will help move the country closer to the goal of a peaceful, secure, and united Nigeria.
