Dickson, Obi, Kwankwaso to lead NDC campaign rally in Nasarawa

Leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC), including Sen. Seriake Dickson, presidential candidate Peter Obi, and his running mate Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, are expected in Akwanga on Thursday for the grand finale of the party’s campaign rally ahead of the Nasarawa North senatorial by-election scheduled for June 20, 2026.

The NDC State Chairman, Hon. Dogo Shammah, disclosed this during a State Working Committee meeting held on Wednesday at Savannah Hotel, Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

He said the party was intensifying mobilisation efforts to secure victory for its senatorial candidate, Ishaya Ododo, describing the by-election as a “testing ground” for the party’s strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the rally will serve as a major show of support, with top party leaders converging in Akwanga to boost the campaign.

“Tomorrow is going to be the grand finale of this campaign where we expect our national leader Seriake Dickson, our presidential candidate Peter Obi, and his running mate Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso in Akwanga to support the rally,” he said.

He urged party members and supporters to fully mobilise to ensure victory, stressing that the by-election would signal the party’s growing influence in the state.

The meeting, the first since the party’s primaries held last month, also reviewed internal concerns and sought to reconcile aggrieved members who were dissatisfied with the outcome.

Shammah appealed for unity, urging both winners and losers of the primaries to accept the results in good faith.

“With the primaries now concluded and clear victories recorded, this is the time for unity, discipline and collective purpose,” he said.

He added that the party was now focused on strengthening grassroots structures and consolidating support across communities in the state.

He also called on members to remain committed to the party’s agenda from the by-election through to the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the NDC is positioning itself as a unified platform with strong internal cohesion.

“NDC is preparing for a strong political future in Nasarawa State built on unity, hard work and credible representation,” he said.

Also speaking, the party’s governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, Abdulahi Maidoya, said the NDC is focused on service delivery rather than political dominance.

He said the party’s ideology is centred on serving the people, especially women and youths, rather than imposing hardship through policies.

Maidoya also expressed confidence in the party’s electoral prospects, claiming that Peter Obi had strong support in Nasarawa State during the 2023 elections.

He argued that with the addition of Rabiu Kwankwaso to the ticket, the NDC was now in a stronger position to secure broader electoral victories across the country.

He maintained that the party’s growing popularity in the state makes it a strong contender ahead of future elections.
