Deputy Governor Claims Forthcoming Ekiti Poll in 2026 Could Be State's Most Impressive to Date

The Ekiti State Deputy Governor and deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, praised voters for demonstrating patriotism by turning out en masse to participate in the Saturday governorship poll in the state.

Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for their impartiality, which led to the peaceful conduct of the Ekiti governorship election across the state.

While casting her vote at her Atiba/Aafin Ward 1 polling unit 003 in Ikere Ekiti on Saturday, Mrs Afuye spoke about the June 20 governorship poll, which aimed to elect a governor to lead the state until 2030.

Mrs Afuye is the running mate of the APC's governorship candidate and current state governor, Biodun Oyebanji, in the election.

After voting at around 8:50 am, Mrs Afuye expressed her admiration for the large turnout of voters, describing it as a sign of Nigeria's maturing democracy.

Mrs Afuye urged political leaders to adhere to the electoral rules set by INEC to maintain the peaceful atmosphere that characterized the election from the start to the collation phase.

She stated, "You can see for yourselves how people trooped out to participate in this election, not only turning out but also being ready and eager to vote, which impresses me greatly.

Mrs Afuye noted that the high voter turnout was not limited to Ikere, as they received similar reports from other local governments and towns, making her happy about the positive results of their rigorous campaigns.

She commended INEC and the security agencies for their preparation, which ensured that no one was intimidated, and expressed hope that this election could be the best in Ekiti's history if the trend continued.

When asked to predict the outcome of the poll, Mrs Afuye expressed confidence that her boss, Biodun Oyebanji, would win the election, having served Ekiti with dedication and achieved excellent results.

Mrs Afuye asserted, "Governor Oyebanji is not only winning this election, but it will be by a wide margin."
