Dr. Katch Onanuju, a foundation leader of the Obidient Movement and Director-General of the Heritage Centre, revealed that 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi was left with no choice but to explore alternative political paths due to recent developments within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Onanuju made this statement during a telephone interview with Vanguard in Abuja on Sunday, where he explained that Obi's decision was the result of extensive consultations with his supporters and like-minded Nigerians who share his vision for the country's future.

According to Onanuju, Obi's decision, though a difficult one, was driven by the desire to address the "yearnings for equity and justice" that his supporters have been expressing, with the former Anambra State governor prioritizing inclusiveness and national balance in his choice.

Onanuju noted that considerations of fairness and representation played a crucial role in Obi's move, emphasizing the need for a broad-based political alternative that takes into account Nigeria's complex political landscape, including zoning and power-sharing expectations.

Onanuju argued that in order to effectively challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress, it is essential to consider the unique aspects of Nigeria's political context, stating "With due respect to the ADC and other contenders, we believe that getting President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress out of power requires consideration of our peculiarities as Nigerian citizens."

He stressed that no region should be excluded from national leadership arrangements, emphasizing the importance of unity and cooperation across political divides in order to achieve a more inclusive and representative government.

Onanuju urged political actors to focus on "rescuing the country from maladministration," emphasizing that the current political climate demands a collective effort rather than experimentation, and that all stakeholders must work together to address the country's challenges.
