Dangote Refinery IPO: 10 steps to buy shares for N5,250

nThe proposed Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Initial Public Offering (IPO) will allow investors to acquire shares in one of Africa’s biggest industrial projects, with the offer price set at N525 per share and the minimum subscription at 10 shares, costing N5,250.
n
The offer is expected to open on September 14, 2026, giving investors an opportunity to participate in the ownership of the 700,000-barrels-per-day refinery.
Here are the 10 key steps prospective investors need to follow:
Open a stockbroking account
nInvestors must buy Nigerian Exchange-listed shares through a licensed stockbroker. Those without an account should register with a broker authorised by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
nObtain a CSCS account
nShares are held electronically through the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS). Your broker will normally open or link a CSCS account to your trading account.
nComplete KYC requirements
nSubmit the identification and other information required by your broker to activate the account and qualify to participate in the offer.
nDecide how many shares to buy
nAt N525 per share, the minimum 10-share subscription costs N5,250. Investors seeking larger allocations should check the final prospectus for the applicable subscription multiples and limits.
nFund your account
nDeposit the amount you intend to invest into your brokerage account before the offer opens. Avoid borrowing money simply to participate in the IPO.
nApply when the IPO opens
nThe offer is scheduled to open on September 14. Investors should rely on the final prospectus for the confirmed closing date and detailed terms.
nUse approved application channels
nSubmit your application through participating stockbrokers and any other platforms specifically identified in the official offer documents.
n
The SEC has warned investors against unauthorised operators and schemes soliciting money for Dangote Refinery shares.
Submit your application correctly
nState the number of shares you want, review the application and ensure payment is made through the approved channel before the deadline.
nWait for allotment
nApplying for shares does not guarantee that you will receive the full quantity requested. If demand exceeds the shares available, allocations may be scaled down. Successful shares will be credited to investors’ CSCS accounts, while applicable refunds will be handled under the offer terms.
nTrack your investment after listing
nOnce the shares begin trading on the Nigerian Exchange, investors can monitor their holdings through their brokers. The market price may rise or fall depending on demand, company performance and broader market conditions.
nWhat investors should know
nThe N5,250 minimum investment is only the entry point. Investors should study the IPO prospectus before applying, particularly the refinery’s financial performance, expansion plans, risks, dividend prospects and proposed use of the funds raised.
n
The offer price of N525 also does not guarantee that the shares will trade above that level after listing.
Most importantly, investors should verify their broker and application channel before transferring funds and avoid anyone promising guaranteed allocation or returns.
The Dangote Refinery IPO could become one of Nigeria’s biggest public offerings, but prospective shareholders should approach it as a market investment—not a guaranteed profit opportunity.
