Cuba's regime is 'on the brink of collapse' according to Trump

President Donald Trump made a statement on Friday, asserting that Cuba's communist regime is on the verge of collapse, saying "Cuba is gonna fall pretty soon" as the US maintains its energy blockade on the island.

In an interview with CNN, Trump expressed that the Cuban government is eager to negotiate, stating "They want to make a deal so badly", and indicated that he has a timeline in mind, but is in no rush.

Trump mentioned that he has assigned Secretary of State Marco Rubio to handle Cuba-related matters, and noted that the island is ready for change "after 50 years".

Both Trump and Rubio, who is the son of Cuban immigrants, have been open about their goal of regime change in Havana, the capital of Cuba.

The US has imposed an energy blockade on Cuba, which has resulted in a significant decline in the island's fuel stocks, following the US action against president Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela, a key oil supplier to Cuba.

Since January 9, no oil imports have reached Cuba, leading airlines to reduce flights to the island and exacerbating the long-standing economic crisis in Cuba.

Havana has accused the Trump administration of attempting to strangle Cuba's economy through the blockade and trade embargo that has been in place since 1962.
