CPP Initiative Submits Request to National Assembly to Reexamine Election Laws Regarding Nomination Costs for Political Parties

The Citizens Platform for Political Inclusion, a broad coalition comprising citizens, public policy advocates, and stakeholders in democratic governance, has formally petitioned the National Assembly to amend the Electoral Act, specifically with regard to the regulation of nomination fees charged by political parties.

This move is part of the group's multifaceted approach, which also includes issuing pre-action notices to several major parties, including the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, African Democratic Congress, and Nigeria Democratic Congress, in a bid to solicit judicial clarification on the issue of nomination fees.

In a statement endorsed by notable figures such as Osita Chidoka, High Chief Amagbe Denzil Kentebe, Barr. Iniruo Wills, Barr. Ken Lewis-Allagoa, Famous Obebi Famous, and Adebiyi Ajayi, the coalition underscored its commitment to fostering a more inclusive democratic process in Nigeria.

The proposed amendments to the Electoral Act, as outlined in the petition, are designed to establish a clear legal framework governing nomination fees, ensure transparency in their administration, and ultimately facilitate broader access to the electoral process.
