Commonwealth Games: Amusan storms into 100m hurdles final

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan delivered a commanding performance on Thursday to book her place in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The former world champion cruised to victory in the opening semifinal, crossing the finish line in a stunning 12.19 seconds to underline her status as one of the favourites for the gold medal.

Amusan finished comfortably ahead of South Africa’s Marione Fourie, who clocked 12.50 seconds, while Jamaica’s Kerrica Hill came third in 12.69 seconds.

Although Amusan’s time was the fastest ever recorded in the event at the Commonwealth Games under any conditions, it will not count as a Games record because it was achieved with a +3.8m/s tailwind, well above the legal limit of +2.0m/s required for record purposes.

The Nigerian looked in complete control throughout the race, powering away from the field to secure automatic qualification for the final later on Thursday.

A victory in the final would add the Commonwealth Games women’s 100m hurdles title to Amusan’s growing list of international honours and further cement her reputation as one of the world’s leading sprint hurdlers.

Her qualification also continues Team Nigeria’s impressive outing in athletics at the Glasgow Games, with the country hoping to build on its medal haul as the competition enters its decisive stages.
