Comedian Acapella decries ‘exploitative’ N25k-per-night airport parking charge

Nigerian comedian Emuoboh Ohare, popularly known as Acapella, has criticised the N78,000 fee he paid for three nights of parking his car at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2) in Lagos, describing the charge as excessive and exploitative.

Acapella, who is also an actor and event host, expressed his frustration in a video posted on his verified Facebook page on Monday.

He said he was shocked to discover that he had been charged N78,000 for three nights and one hour of parking at the airport, noting that overnight parking previously cost N6,000 per night.

The comedian explained that he had travelled to Abuja and returned to Lagos after three days, only to receive what he described as the shock of his life when he attempted to retrieve his car from the airport parking facility.

According to him, the parking attendant told him that overnight parking had been increased to N25,000 per night, effective March 1, 2026.

Acapella questioned why Nigerians had not publicly protested the sharp increase, wondering why many appeared to quickly adapt to such changes.

He said, “This morning I landed MMA 2 airport from Abuja. I parked my car at the airport.

“To my surprise as I returned to pay, the guy (airport official) told me my fee was N78,000.

“I asked him what he meant; I parked this car here since Friday, three nights and one hour. And then the guy said overnight parking costs N25,000.

“Annoyingly, the guy said it had been implemented since March 1. So I wondered, ‘today being March 9, you’re telling me some Nigerians have been paying N25,000 every night to park their car at the airport since March 1? And there is no outrage, everybody is acting like it’s normal and just adapted?’

“They were charging N6,000 for overnight parking. So some people would consider that three or four days would be approximately N25,000. So, instead of booking a taxi to and fro, just park your car at the airport. First of all, for the comfort it gives you that it’s your car. Secondly it’s almost same price with the Uber or Bolt ride. And thirdly, for the convenience that when you land, even if you have some personal movements, you can start your movement from the airport.

“And now the Lagos MMA 2 airport charges N25,000 a night just to park your car? That means if I park my car for four nights, I’ll pay N100,000? And people are paying?”

Acapella said he had expected to see airport users posting videos online to complain about the development.

“The biggest problem we have as a people is that we collectively do not want Nigeria to work. Everybody just wants to make money to adapt to the stupidity that is going on in Nigeria… Guys, we are sinking.”
