COAS calls for unified security approach to tackle Nigeria’s threats

Abuja — The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has urged a unified and coordinated approach among the military, police, and other security agencies as a key strategy to address Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

The call came during a familiarization visit by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to the Army Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.

Lt. Gen. Shaibu congratulated the IGP on his appointment as the 23rd Inspector General of Police and reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to joint operations, noting the longstanding professional collaboration between the Army and Police, including their joint service in the United Nations Mission in Darfur.

Acknowledging the Police’s support in operations against banditry and kidnapping in Kogi, Kwara, and Niger states, Shaibu stressed that “only through a unified and well-coordinated inter-agency framework can enduring peace and security be achieved nationwide.”

In response, IGP Disu highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration between the Army and Police, praising the partnership as vital for achieving national security goals. He also commended the Army’s role in training Police Mobile Force personnel, which has strengthened operational effectiveness, and pledged continued intelligence sharing and coordination in security operations.
