Coalition calls on citizens to back continuing police overhaul led by Inspector General Disu

A leading civic advocacy organisation, Prayer and Support for the Nigerian Armed Forces and Other Security Agencies, has reaffirmed its confidence in the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, expressing optimism over ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening professionalism and accountability in the Nigeria Police Force.

The group’s leader, Ambassador Mary Abayomi-Fatile, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where members engaged in a show of solidarity and constructive dialogue with police leadership.

Speaking after the meeting, Fatile said the organisation believed in the capacity and track record of the IGP to implement meaningful reforms that would enhance public trust and improve policing standards nationwide.

She said , “We are here not only to show support, but to underscore our confidence in the current Police leadership. Nigerians are hopeful, and we share that optimism for a more responsive and people-focused police institution”. .

Abayomi-Fatile highlighted Disu’s professional history, citing what she described as his impactful tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, “where he was widely credited with improving operational efficiency and rapid crime response, as well as his service in several strategic postings across the country, where he demonstrated discipline, innovation, and commitment to duty.”

“His experiences position him to effectively drive reforms that prioritise integrity, training, and community engagement,” she added.

She noted that “while policing in today’s environment is complex, sustained effort and collaboration between security agencies and civil society will achieve the desired transformation.”

According to her, “Prayer and Support for the Nigerian Armed Forces and Other Security Agencies remains dedicated to promoting morale, accountability, and cooperation between citizens and security institutions through advocacy, engagement, and community-driven initiatives.”

The group further stressed the importance of continued partnership between civil society and security institutions, noting that constructive dialogue and shared responsibility remain critical to national security.

In response, IGP Disu welcomed the group’s support and reiterated his commitment to strengthening the Nigeria Police Force through reforms aimed at improving service delivery, professionalism, and public confidence.
