Christians urged to pray for Nigeria’s leaders at Men’s Fellowship Convention

Hundreds of worshippers gathered in Agege, Lagos, over the weekend for the 38th Annual Convention of the Abundant Life Gospel Church Men’s Fellowship, where Christian leaders called on Nigerians to intensify prayers for the nation’s leaders and work towards national development.

The three-day convention, themed “Unbeatable,” was held at the church’s headquarters on Iju Road and featured seminars, prayer sessions, a men’s forum and free health screenings aimed at equipping men to navigate economic and social challenges.

Speaking at the event, the National President of the fellowship, Deacon Bola Showumi, urged Christians to obey the biblical injunction to pray for those in authority.

He said leaders require the support and prayers of citizens to succeed in addressing the country’s challenges.

n

“The Bible instructs us to pray for those in authority. Our leaders do not possess all knowledge, and no leader can succeed without the support of the people they serve,” he said.

Showumi also encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful, expressing confidence that the country’s challenges could be overcome through faith, unity and collective effort.

He urged Christian men to live upright lives and avoid crime, stressing that righteousness remains essential to national development.

n

“Only righteousness can exalt a nation, while sin brings reproach,” he said.

In a seminar titled “Navigating These Uncertain Times,” the State Pastor of Abundant Life Gospel Churches in Oyo State, Rev. Tunde Owolabi, encouraged participants not to lose hope despite prevailing economic and social challenges.

He said every believer possesses the capacity to overcome adversity through faith, determination and resilience.

“There is something God has deposited in every believer to overcome challenges. In every difficult moment, there are opportunities, and with determination and God’s help, we will emerge stronger,” he said.

Owolabi called on government at all levels to prioritise security and create an enabling environment for businesses and citizens to thrive.

He said improved security would restore public confidence and contribute significantly to national development.

The cleric also appealed for peaceful conduct during future elections, urging politicians and their supporters to reject violence.

n

“Election is not a do-or-die affair. There is no justification for violence or the destruction of lives and property,” he said.

He also prayed for victims of kidnapping and insecurity, as well as members of the armed forces and other security agencies engaged in efforts to restore peace across the country.

A member of the convention planning committee, Deacon Ibukun Adewole, said the activities were designed to strengthen men spiritually, physically and emotionally, particularly in the face of current economic realities.

According to him, the programme featured spiritual impartation sessions, free medical checks and interactive discussions to help participants build resilience and maintain healthy lifestyles.

The convention attracted participants from various branches of the church nationwide and concluded with prayers for Nigeria, thanksgiving and health outreach activities.
