Christianity in trouble if Jingir’s comments ignored — Ayodele

LAGOS — The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has criticised the Federal Government over its alleged silence on recent remarks attributed to Islamic cleric, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir.

Ayodele said Jingir should be arrested over the remarks, warning that failure to caution religious leaders against inflammatory statements could threaten peaceful coexistence in the country.

The cleric spoke in a video posted on social media while reacting to a statement attributed to Jingir in which he reportedly said those who did not accept a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket should leave Nigeria.

Jingir was also reported to have described Christians as “infidels” in the video circulating on social media.

Reacting, Ayodele in a video posted by Tunde Ednut, alleged that the government would have responded differently if a Christian religious leader had made a similar statement.

“If the government does not caution this, then Christianity is in trouble in Nigeria. This senseless old fool, Islamic cleric Jingir, should be in jail by now.

“If a Christian had made such a statement, they would have picked him up immediately,” Ayodele said.

He urged the Bola Tinubu administration to caution Jingir and other religious leaders against making statements capable of inflaming religious tensions.

Ayodele warned that failure to address inflammatory rhetoric could further undermine peaceful coexistence and national unity.
