Chinda wins Rivers state governorship ticket for APC

Hon. Ogundu Kingsley Chinda has secured the Governorship candidate position of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the 2027 election in the state, following his emergence as the sole candidate after three other aspirants withdrew.

This development occurred after Chinda became the only aspirant left, as the Governor of the state, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Tonye Cole, and Alabo Dakorinama George-Kelly all withdrew from the race on Wednesday night.

Kwamoti Bitrus, the Chairman of the State Governorship Primary, announced that Chinda received a total of 268,497 votes as the sole candidate of the party.

Bitrus expressed his appreciation to party members for their massive participation and to the agents for their dedication, also thanking the State Chairman of the party for providing a conducive environment for the process.

Notably, Chinda was previously elected into the Green Chambers on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and currently represents Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency at the National Assembly as the Minority Leader of the 10th House of Representatives.

According to Chibike Ikenga, the Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, the APC has undergone recalibration in the state, resulting in the selection of a candidate who can unify and drive development in the state.

The candidacy of Chinda, as noted by Ikenga, demonstrates that the APC has been reorganised in the state, with Chinda being the chosen candidate to lead this new direction.
