The Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State and former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, has extended an olive branch to the Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, calling for unity and collective strength within the Bayelsa APC as preparations gradually take shape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a political gathering in Yenagoa, Chief Sylva underscored the urgent need for Bayelsa leaders and stakeholders of the APC to close ranks and work together in the overall interest of the party, stressing that division would only weaken the state’s voice in national politics. He noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has continued to show commitment to the development of the Niger Delta region, and as Bayelsans, the least they can do is rally together to ensure his smooth reelection come 2027.

In his words, Sylva stated: “We are one family, first as Bayelsans and more importantly as Ijaw people. No matter the differences of the past, it is time to put them aside. The only thing we can do for Mr. President, who has given so much attention to our region, is to stand behind him firmly in 2027. Our unity as a people and as a party will send a strong message that Bayelsa APC is ready to deliver.”

Chief Sylva further highlighted the importance of collaboration between himself and Senator Lokpobiri, both of whom have played significant roles in the political and developmental history of Bayelsa State. According to him, personal interests must be set aside in the spirit of progress, and what should be paramount at this time is building a formidable APC structure that will not only win elections but also attract sustainable development to the state.

The Bayelsa APC Media Team described the appeal as timely, especially at a moment when internal party cohesion is critical to the larger national project of ensuring the continuation of President Tinubu’s reforms and policies. The statement noted that by extending an olive branch, Chief Sylva has once again demonstrated maturity, leadership, and statesmanship, putting the collective interest of the APC and Bayelsa State above personal or factional considerations.

The call for unity, the team emphasized, is not just about politics but about the future of Bayelsa’s place in the Nigerian federation. With Sylva’s gesture, party faithful and supporters are hopeful that other leaders within the APC will embrace reconciliation and synergy, ensuring that Bayelsa contributes maximally to President Tinubu’s reelection bid in 2027.
