Chelsea are facing a major squad-clearance operation, with the club needing to find new destinations for 16 players before the summer transfer window closes.

The Blues currently have 41 senior players in their squad, leaving new head coach Xabi Alonso with the difficult task of reducing the group to around 25 players ahead of the new season.

With only 25 days remaining before the transfer deadline, Chelsea must accelerate their efforts to move players out of Stamford Bridge.

However, the new rules mean Chelsea cannot simply isolate players who are not part of Alonso’s plans.

Instead, the club will have to find solutions for those players, either through permanent transfers or loan moves.

Chelsea’s large squad has been a talking point for several transfer windows, with the club relying heavily on loans and player sales to manage its numbers.

Alonso will therefore have to make difficult decisions as he prepares for his first campaign at Stamford Bridge, while the club’s recruitment team works to secure exits before the deadline.
