The Central Bank of Nigeria has issued a warning to the public about a surge in deceitful messages, emails, and online communications designed to deceive individuals into granting unauthorized access to their personal bank accounts, as stated by its Acting Director, Corporate Communications, Mrs. Hakama Sidi-Ali, on Wednesday.

n

These fake messages are crafted to deceive recipients, stealing their personal data and disseminating false information about the bank's leadership and operations, according to the CBN.

n

The CBN has noted that such communications often trick users into clicking on suspicious links and providing sensitive details under the pretense of official instructions, with the ultimate goal of hacking into personal accounts.

n

As the CBN pointed out, these messages prompt recipients to click on links and spread false information about the bank's leadership, licensing, and policy issues, all in an effort to gain unauthorized access to personal accounts.

n

The bank's official website, www.cbn.gov.ng, remains the authentic source of information, and the public is urged to verify all communications through approved channels to ensure their safety.

n

The CBN has advised Nigerians to exercise caution and avoid clicking on unverified links or sharing personal and financial information on suspicious platforms, as this could make them vulnerable to cyber fraud.

n

The bank has encouraged the public to report any suspected fraudulent messages, emails, or websites to the relevant law enforcement authorities, playing a crucial role in preventing cybercrime.

n

In a bid to reaffirm its commitment to financial security, the CBN is collaborating with security agencies to bolster its cybersecurity systems and protect Nigerians from digital financial crimes.
