Cattle rearers occupy Ekiti educational institution to pasture their livestock

Governor Biodun Oyebanji is being urged to intervene in a crisis at Ekiti Parapo College Ido-Ekiti, the first indigenous secondary school in Ekiti, which has been overrun by herders grazing their cows on the premises.

This situation has become a persistent problem, with the school's porous nature and vast land mass with green vegetation making it an attractive spot for the herders, who are taking advantage of the lack of security to graze their cattle unchallenged.

The presence of cattle and herders on the school premises is causing distractions and creating an eyesore, with students, teachers, and administrative staff being affected, and the classroom areas being used as a host for the animals.

This issue has been ongoing for some time and has the potential to negatively impact the education of the children, undermining the governor's education program, and a more permanent solution is needed to address the problem.

The school management and alumni association have previously sought the help of the Amotekun Corps in Ekiti, which successfully flushed out the herders and their cows from the college last year, but the underlying factors that made the school a target have not been addressed.

The Amotekun corps has provided temporary relief on some occasions, but a more concrete solution is required, with the Ekiti Parapo College Old Students Association believing that a comprehensive perimeter fencing of the college is the answer.

Such a move would cement Governor Oyebanji's reputation as an achiever, building on his visible achievements in education, road construction, health, and employment, and would be a fitting gesture as he prepares to begin his second term.

Foluso Kofo Ajibulu, a retired navy commander and alumnus of Ekiti Parapo College Ido-Ekiti, is making a passionate appeal to the governor to provide the necessary fencing, which would ensure his legacy remains intact.

Ajibulu, who resides in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, is counting on Governor Oyebanji to heed this call and take action to protect the historic institution, which is a source of pride for the people of Ekiti.
