News of his death was shared by actor Kunle Afod on Instagram, who paid tribute to Oyewo's enduring impact on the industry in a heartfelt post on Friday.

Afod's Instagram post read: “Kola Oyewo has taken his final bow, but his immense contributions to the Nigerian theatre and film industry will never be forgotten, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come, as he rests well, with his work living on.

Dr Kola Oyewo was born on March 27, 1946, in Oba-Ile, and he embarked on his acting career in 1964 with the Oyin Adejobi Theatre Group.

Oyewo's career, which spanned over six decades, was marked by his portrayal of Odewale in The Gods Are Not to Blame, a performance that earned him widespread recognition.

Throughout his illustrious career, Oyewo featured in numerous notable productions, including Saworoide, Sango, Super Story, and several Yoruba-language films that played a significant role in the growth of Nigeria's movie industry.

Beyond his acting career, Oyewo also built a distinguished academic career, earning a doctorate degree in Drama from the University of Ibadan.

He went on to lecture at several prestigious institutions, including Obafemi Awolowo University, Redeemer’s University, and Elizade University, further solidifying his legacy in the academic realm.
