Breaking: Fuel blast hits petrol station in Calabar

A gas explosion occurred at Fomex filling station, located on Edibe Edibe Road in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State, on Saturday morning, resulting in the destruction of property valued at millions of naira.
nThe blast took place at approximately 9:40 am, with eyewitnesses reporting that the explosion was so powerful it caused nearby buildings to shake, leading to initial speculation that a bomb had detonated.
nNo deaths were reported at the time of filing this report, despite the severity of the incident.
nResidents in the area expressed concern over the slow response from federal and state fire services, which had yet to arrive even an hour after the explosion.
nHowever, the University of Calabar Fire Service was contacted and was expected to respond to the incident and provide assistance.
nThe Commissioner of Police, Rashid Agegbua, visited the scene to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused by the explosion.
