Breaking: ADC accuses INEC of backing the government at the expense of the Nigerian people

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has leveled allegations against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing it of favoring the government over the interests of Nigerians, while also disputing the commission's interpretation of a recent Court of Appeal ruling, which the party claims was influenced by government pressure.

This development, according to the ADC, raises significant concerns regarding the neutrality of the electoral body and the future of opposition politics in Nigeria, as stated by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in a late-night statement.

The statement was issued in response to INEC's decision to remove the names of ADC's National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, from its portal, prompting the party to review the situation and consider its next steps.

According to the ADC, it rejects INEC's interpretation of the Court of Appeal ruling, citing that the commission was pressured by a government that has become increasingly uneasy about the party's growing momentum, despite the government's relentless attacks on all opposition parties.

The ADC also criticized INEC's press statement, describing it as contradictory and unreasonable, and announced that it will clarify these contradictions in due course, emphasizing that INEC has succumbed to pressure and is now siding with the government against the Nigerian people.

Bolaji Abdullahi stated that the party is currently reviewing its options and will make its next steps known soon, urging its members and all Nigerians to remain steadfast as they await further directives, while also expressing optimism about the party's prospects, saying "Nigeria is rising, ADC is rising".
