Breaking: Abducted FUTO students regain freedom

Two female students of Federal University of Technology, Owerri, FUTO, who were abducted last Sunday at the stretch between the institution and Ihiagwa community, have regained their freedom.

Confirming the development in a press statement on Friday, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Orakwe Ezugwu, said: “The students are currently receiving medicare and psychological support in FUTO Medical Centre”.

His words: “The Management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, has confirmed the safe release of the two female students, who were abducted during a security incident on campus on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

“The students are currently receiving medical care and psychological support at the University Medical Centre.

n

“The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. I.N.S. Dozie, has visited the students and interacted with them.”

While commending the police and other security agencies “for their prompt intervention”, FUTO management also assured students, staff, parents, and the University community that “additional security measures are being sustained in collaboration with relevant security agencies”.

Ezugwu then urged members of the University community to remain calm and vigilant, and promptly report any suspicious activity.
