Board of Trustees takes reins of PDP following judicial verdict

The Peoples Democratic Party's Board of Trustees, under the leadership of Chairman Adolphus Wabara, has taken over the party's administrative reins following a Supreme Court of Nigeria judgment, thereby filling the potential leadership gap.

This move is in accordance with the party's constitution, as Wabara explained during the 84th BoT meeting, which convened on Sunday in Abuja, and is aimed at preventing a power vacuum in the wake of the court's ruling.

The judgment, which was recently handed down, nullified the 2025 National Convention that had produced the National Working Committee, prompting the BoT to intervene and stabilize the party.

According to Wabara, the BoT's swift action has ensured continuity and reassured members amidst the party's internal challenges, with the party receiving numerous messages of support from members and stakeholders nationwide.

Wabara expressed gratitude towards the dissolved National Working Committee, led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, for their dedication to the party, and also commended party leaders, governors, lawmakers, and supporters for their unwavering loyalty.

The BoT chairman attributed the crisis to a series of events preceding the planned 2025 convention, including internal disputes and legal challenges that ultimately led to the Supreme Court judgment.

Despite this setback, Wabara remains optimistic that the PDP will emerge stronger, urging members to unite and focus on rebuilding the party ahead of future elections.

The BoT, under Wabara's leadership, has reaffirmed its commitment to providing leadership, restoring stability, and repositioning the party to play a significant role in Nigeria's democratic process.
