Benue gov orders appointees seeking elective office to resign by March 30

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has directed political appointees in his administration who intend to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign on or before March 30, 2026.

The Governor said the directive is aimed at sustaining the pace of development across the state and ensuring that governance is not slowed by political ambitions.

Alia, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, stated that early resignation by affected appointees would enable his administration to promptly fill vacant positions and maintain continuity in governance.

“The earlier those who want to resign tender their resignation letters, the better, as it will give me a clear direction to get other hands that will fill the position for continuation,” he said.

The governor stressed his commitment to delivering on his development agenda, noting that his administration remains focused on improving infrastructure and public service delivery.

He called on well-meaning citizens to support his administration’s efforts to reposition the state, saying collective commitment was necessary to achieve sustainable progress.

“I invite all people of good conscience to join hands with me so that we can make Benue a place that attracts everybody,” he added.

Reaffirming his resolve, the governor said he would not be distracted from fulfilling his mandate to the people of the state.

“I have started; I am midway, and I am more determined to do more because that was my covenant with the Benue people.

n

“I cannot tender apologies to anyone because I am developing Benue State.

n

My covenant was with the people of Benue State. My attention is on how to make them happy, how to rewrite the story of the state for good. Therefore, nothing can deter me; nobody can frustrate me to abandon this,” he vowed.
