Benue: Alia prioritizes lasting progress over short-term fixes, according to backer

Tagher Tagher Wan U Tiv, a prominent supporter of Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, has come out in defense of the governor's development strategy, emphasizing the administration's focus on fostering long-term economic empowerment over reliance on temporary handouts.

This approach, according to Tagher, is rooted in Governor Alia's philosophy of creating sustainable livelihoods through investments in key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, and skills development, as outlined in a statement released to journalists on Friday.

The state government, Tagher explained, is actively providing tractors, farm equipment, and support to farmers, in addition to implementing skills acquisition programs aimed at enhancing productivity and self-reliance among youths and women.

Furthermore, the administration is engaged in constructing roads to facilitate the transportation of farm produce from rural areas to markets, thereby boosting economic activity.

Tagher argued that while these initiatives may not garner as much attention on social media as the distribution of relief materials, they will ultimately have a more profound and lasting impact on the state's economy.

In contrast to Governor Alia's development-focused strategy, Tagher drew a distinction with the approach of certain Abuja-based politicians, who he claimed are prioritizing the distribution of palliatives and engaging in power struggles over party structures.

According to Tagher, while palliatives may offer temporary respite during difficult times, they are no substitute for policies aimed at addressing the underlying causes of poverty and unemployment.

Governor Alia, Tagher maintained, is committed to empowering individuals to become economically self-sufficient, thereby reducing dependence on government assistance and promoting sustainable development.

Tagher urged Benue residents to support policies that create lasting opportunities, stressing that investments in agriculture, infrastructure, and human capital will ultimately benefit more people than short-term relief measures.
