Beach Volleyball: Nigeria beat Morocco, qualify for Los Angeles 2028 Olympics

Nigeria’s women’s beach volleyball team has qualified for the Olympic Games for the first time after defeating Morocco 2-0 in the final of the 2026 CAVB Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship in Alexandria, Egypt, on Saturday.

The victory secured Nigeria’s place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States, where the team will represent the country in the beach volleyball event.

Nigeria dominated the final, winning the two sets 21-17 and 21-10 to claim the gold medal and secure the Olympic qualification.

The team had earlier booked its place in the final after defeating Mozambique 2-0 in the semi-final. Nigeria won both sets 21-17.

Reacting to the achievement, President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Musa Nimrod, congratulated the team and described the qualification as a milestone for the country.

“I wish to congratulate Nigerians and thank God. This is the fourth time we are going into the finals; we finished in second place on three occasions,” Nimrod said.

“God has done it for us on our fourth trial and given us victory. It is not the Nigeria Volleyball Federation’s success alone but the entire nation,” he added.
