Bayelsa Power Promise: Activist Questions Repeated Assurances as March Nears End

A prominent Niger Delta activist, Chief Inko Brightstar, popularly known as “General WhoKnows Tomorrow,” has called on the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, to fulfill his repeated promises of delivering stable electricity to the state.rnrnChief Inko expressed concern over what he described as the governor’s fourth assurance that Bayelsans would enjoy uninterrupted power supply, particularly through the long-anticipated gas turbine project. Speaking with news reporters, he noted that residents have been waiting since early last year, with several timelines announced and missed.rnrnAccording to him, the government had consistently reassured citizens that electricity would be restored “very soon,” yet the situation remains unchanged, and even getting worse. He stressed that many Bayelsans had already begun to lose hope before the latest promise was made.rnrnThe activist referenced the governor’s recent statement during the Ayakoro Annual Festival, where His Excellency Douye Diri again assured the public that uninterrupted power supply would commence within March 2026. The event, held in Ayakoro, home of the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission,Chief Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, saw the governor reiterate his commitment to resolving the state’s power challenges.rnrnGovernor Diri also revealed that the President of Nigeria, His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, is expected to visit Bayelsa to commission the project, further raising expectations among residents.rnrnHowever, Chief Inko questioned the credibility of these assurances, noting that the month is gradually coming to an end without any visible progress. He challenged the government to clarify whether Bayelsans should prepare for yet another extension of the timeline.rnrn“Should the people expect another promise?” he asked. “If not March, will it be April or May?
