Bayelsa allocates N26.1 billion for wage payments over two-month period in April and May

The Bayelsa State government has allocated a substantial sum of N26.1b for salary-related components for the months of April and May, while also receiving a gross Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) inflow of N76.1b for the same period.

According to the Technical Adviser on Treasury and Accounts, Timipre Seipolo, who made the disclosure during the state's Transparency Briefing for April and May 2026 in Yenagoa, the breakdown of the salary-related components payments reveals significant expenditures.

Seipolo stated that the salary of civil servants for April stood at N7.74b, and N7.78b for May, while the salary of political appointees stood at N1.95b for April and N1.97b for May, indicating a steady increase in personnel costs.

Other salary components payments for the months under review include salary arrears, gratuity, pension arrears, grants to tertiary institutions, salary support to local government areas for payment of primary schools teachers, NYSC members allowance, and minimum wage arrears, totaling significant amounts.

Seipolo noted that all salaries-related payments stood at N13.0b for the month of April, while the month of May required N13.1b, bringing the total to N26.1b for the two months, highlighting the government's substantial investment in human resources.

The state received a gross Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) inflow of N42.33 billion in April, with major contributors including derivation revenue of N27.27 billion, statutory allocation of N7.48 billion, Value Added Tax (VAT) of N6.33 billion, and non-oil revenue of N1.24 billion.

In May, the state recorded a gross FAAC inflow of N52.81 billion, comprising N34.41 billion from derivation, N9.9 billion from VAT, N6.9 billion from statutory allocation, and N1.6 billion from non-oil revenues, indicating a notable increase in revenue.

Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiouwou Koku-Obiyai, reiterated the administration's commitment to transparency and accountability during the briefing, emphasizing that citizens have a right to know how public resources are managed.

The government remains focused on delivering impactful projects across the state, including the Nembe-Brass Road, Ekelemo-Agge Road, the nine-storey secretariat complex, and the Olympic-sized stadium at Igbogene, according to Mrs. Koku-Obiyai.
