Authorities initiate search for perpetrators behind murder of Lagos NURTW secretary, Ajiboye

Ajiboye's death has prompted the Lagos Police Command to launch a thorough search for the unidentified gunmen responsible for his killing, with the incident occurring along the Ikorodu road in Lagos.

Following the attack, Ajiboye, also known as Toba Ijaya, was rushed to St. Nichola Hospital in Lagos Island Local Government, where medical experts ultimately pronounced him dead.

Tension arose on Tuesday near St. Nichola Hospital as transporters blocked police access to the facility to retrieve Ajiboye's body after his death was confirmed.

According to state Police Command spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi, security personnel have been deployed to key locations to prevent a breakdown of law and order across the state.

Adebisi confirmed that an investigation is underway to apprehend the perpetrators, and the Command has taken measures to maintain order, stating "Investigation is ongoing to get the perpetrators, the Command has also deployed to strategic locations to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order".

The attack on Ajiboye occurred as he was returning home from his childhood neighbourhood in Fadeyi, with the assailants intercepting his vehicle along the Ikorodu road and firing shots through the windscreen and other parts of the car.

The vehicle, a white car, was left with multiple bullet holes, and initial reports suggested that Ajiboye and the other occupants had survived the attack with gunshot wounds.

However, subsequent reports revealed that Ajiboye ultimately succumbed to his injuries, resulting in his death.

Lagos NURTW Chairman Mustapha Adekunle, also known as Sego, expressed his grief over Ajiboye's death, describing him as a loyal ally and trusted friend.

In a tribute posted on social media, Adekunle conveyed his devastation at the loss, acknowledging that Ajiboye's commitment to the union and their political structure would be deeply missed.

Adekunle wrote, "The news of the sudden passing of Comrade Toba Ajiboye has left me deeply saddened and heartbroken, it is difficult to come to terms with the loss of such a loyal, dependable, and committed ally,"

Sego further described the late union leader as "more than an ally", stating that he was a pillar of TeamSego and SegoNation, and that his friendship and dedication to the union would always be remembered.

Adekunle said, "Comrade Toba Ajiboye, the Organising Secretary of the NURTW Lagos State Council, was more than an ally; he was a trusted friend, a man of steadfast loyalty and unwavering commitment, and a true pillar of TeamSego and SegoNation.

His friendship, unwavering support, and selfless dedication to the union over the years will forever remain etched in my heart," Sego added.
